GRE is known as Graduate Record Examinations (GRE): is a standardized test intended to measure all graduates’ abilities in tasks of general academic nature (regardless of their fields of specialization) and the extent to which undergraduate education has developed their verbal skills, quantitative skills, and abstract/critical thinking. It is a requirement for graduate schools in the US, but, it is not really necessarily required in Canada. It is owned and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). GRE is computer based and is taken by graduates looking to further their education through Masters or Doctoral degree programs. GRE Comprises of certain parts of algebra, geometry, arithmetic, and vocabulary.

GRE categorized into?

GRE is grouped into General tests and Subject tests.

General Tests: Analytic Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Critical Thinking, and Quantitative Reasoning.

Subject Test: test/assesses knowledge in specific areas and the length of the exam is 170mins per subject.

How many sections is GRE General sectioned into?

  • Analytic Writing:consists of two essays: “issue task” and “argument task”. The word processing program used for this test is specifically designed by ETS and does not contain spell checkers or other any other advanced features, therefore your punctuation, grammar, spellings have to to correct and accurate, It is scored over 6.0.
  • Verbal Reasoning and Critical Thinking:assesses the reading comprehension, critical reasoning and vocabulary usage. It is scored over 170, with 130 being the lowest score a test taker can score.
  • Quantitative Reasoning: assesses the basic high school level mathematical knowledge and reasoning skills of the test taker. It is scored over 170, with 130 being the lowest score a test taker can score.

What category of schools accepts GRE?

Schools offering science and social science education accept GRE; but can also accept in some cases for MBA, humanities and Arts courses.

What is the accepted score result for schools?

For a result/score to be accepted, it is widely dependent on the schools been applied to.

How long does the test last?

The entire test takes between Three hours, forty-five minutes (3hrs45mins) to four hours (4hrs) with a break of One minute (1min) between tests and ten minutes (10 mins) before the third test during the exams.

Where is the venue for GRE located?

GRE is offered at multiple centers across the country; GRE can be written multiple times depending on the availability of the centers.

How long do I have to wait to register after failing to re-register?

Twenty-one (21) days; it can be rewritten if failed with an interval of twenty-one (21) but not more than five (5) time in a year. This applies to the test taker that cancels the scores on a test taken previously.

How long before by result is ready for download and use?

GER is computer based and the result can be viewed immediately after the test is submitted but, cannot be downloaded until after thirteen (13) days.

Can GRE be rescheduled?

Yes, it be rescheduled but has to be done seven (7) days before the test date with an additional fee.

What are the items needed for GRE registration?

The form filled at the office is the only important document needed for the registration

 

What items are you expected to take to the examination venue?

Your valid ORIGINAL International Passport and admissions ticket (generated after payment) are required and should be taken by the test taker to the test venue on the day of the test.

What is the score result grace validity?

The score result validity is 5years.

Are there materials made available to the applicants?

Yes, there are materials that are made available to the applicant, both online and offline at a cost. The material made available for GRE is “Kaplan GRE” which contains CDROM’s (to be used for stimulation practice) with past questions and test taking strategy. There is an official guide which can be made available on request as we do not stock it.

Is it important to register for GRE tutorials?

Yes, it is important because, the tutorial shows/teaches you the technicalities involved in answering the questions given; knowing the best way to answer and respond to questions asked.

Is there a fee for the tutorials?

Yes, there is a fee for the tutorial and classes are made flexible to suit the student. Dates are given to the student to pick and decide what works for them. The classes are held on an hourly base, and billing is done hourly too.
